HP designs printer supplies to reduce their impact on the environment by reducing or eliminating hazardous materials, using fewer resources, and designing for recyclability. This section describes the actions taken for LaserJet and inkjet supplies.

- The new multipack inkjet cartridge packages are made of #5 plastic, Durafold, easy to open, made of 30% recycled materials and recyclable.Since July 2004, this innovation has resulted in 10,000 fewer tonnes of materials used in our inkjet packages.
- Manufacturing processes for supplies and packaging do not use ozone depleting substances
- Use of hazardous materials in HP LaserJet supplies is minimized to the extent practicable. Through supplier agreements, HP ensures that hazardous materials are not present above applicable regulatory threshold limit values.
- External packaging is manufactured using elemental chlorine-free processes

- From 1990 to 2004, the average pages printed per gram weight of LaserJet cartridge increased by 139%
- Recently the installation guide inserts for monochrome cartridges were replaced with installation instructions printed on the external cartridge packaging. This action will save approximately 350 tons of paper per year
- External packaging uses up to 30% post consumer recycled content
- HP has replaced polystyrene cartridge end-caps with pulp-moulded 100% post consumer recycled content end-caps

- All paperboard used for inkjet supplies in North America is made with 100% recycled content, minimum 50% post-consumer.
- Modifications to the printer shipping box has allowed for the reduction of packaging for supplies shipped with the printer, resulting in a annual reduction of 1,000 tons of paperboard use.

- All uncoated small format office paper (except brochures), greeting cards, glossy paper, and photo paper do NOT contain virgin wood fibres derived from old-growth forests
- HP Office Recycled and HP Digital Copy Recycled contains 30% post consumer recycled content paper fiber
- All HP transparencies contain 45% recycled content. It is a mixture of pre-consumer and post-consumer recycled material. The percentage changes for both, and, therefore, cannot be specified.
- HP Felt Textured Greeting Card / Ivory paper base contains 30% post consumer recycled content paper fibre.
