HP's initiatives in creating a diverse and inclusive work culture were recognised with awards from Germany and the UK last year. The awards, which are given to employers who successfully attract and retain female talent, recognise HP for the company’s track record and committed approach.

Integrated long-term approach
In the UK, HP was included in The Times Top 50 list of ‘Where Women want to Work’ for 2006. Organised jointly by The Times and marketing and recruitment specialist Aurora, the competition judged each company's track record based on evidence given in more than 30 separate categories.

All companies named in the final Top 50 have taken a long-term approach to promoting diversity. Most have targeted women early on through university and college bursaries, with specific recruitment and networking initiatives. They have also monitored and nurtured women’s careers after having joined their organisation.

Most importantly, the final list brought together employers that recognise diversity and an inclusive working environment as key enablers for innovation and competitive differentiation with their customers.

Recognition for equal opportunities
In Germany, an annual competition in the federal state of Baden-Wuerttemberg, where HP’s headquarters are based, gives recognition to employers who promote equal opportunities for women and men in the workplace.

HP Germany was recognised for its efforts to attract young women from schools and universities and for retaining and fostering female employees.

The competition judges singled out HP for successfully undertaking a number of specific initiatives. These included HP's collaboration with a local high school for girls, a comprehensive bursary programme supporting and mentoring four women studying IT-related business degrees, the progression of women’s networks at HP and overall employee involvement.

The jury considered HP’s commitment to recruiting women at all levels and offering them opportunities to progress to management positions to be ‘exemplary’. HP’s targets for recruiting and retaining women are reviewed quarterly by management, signalling our strong commitment to diversity.

The annual competition received a total of 39 submissions from large, medium-sized and small business employers in the region. HP was awarded joint second place in the category of large employers.
