Global Citizenship report for FY06 links CSR to heart of HP’s business

At HP, Global Citizenship is one of the ‘pillars’ of our business – it is at the very heart of what we do and is intimately connected with our goals and strategies for our business as a whole. We have reported on our programmes and activities since financial year 2001, and we have just published our 6th annual report on our progress against our Global Citizenship goals at the beginning of March.

Supply Chain Responsibility matters – more than ever 
HP operates one of the largest and most complex supply chains in the IT industry. In 2006 alone, HP spent approximately $50 billion on materials, manufacturing and transportation services. The sheer size and scale of this operation represents an immense opportunity – not only to create leading-edge products at competitive prices but also to extend our values and standards throughout our supply chain.

Supplier standards are crucial for the success of our business. They have a direct impact on our reputation and the quality of our products and services. We measure and regularly audit our direct suppliers to ensure they adhere to HP standards.

Interview

Reducing greenhouse gas emissions at HP
Robert Parkhurst is the Environment Programme Manager at HP worldwide. As part of his role, he was involved in developing the recently launched initiative between HP and the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). He is also heavily involved with HP’s ongoing effort to reduce the environmental impact of its own operations. We spoke to him to find out about the progress HP is making in this area and which aspect he will be focusing on going forward.

HP scoops AXA Award for Corporate Sustainability
HP’s commitment to being a leader on matters of global citizenship has been recognized with the 2007 AXA Award for Corporate Sustainability, part of the European Business Awards presented in Brussels on 31 January, 2007. The AXA Award specifically recognises businesses that demonstrate strong involvement in managing social, environmental and governance risk prevention.

HP delivers energy savings for customers and sets example with energy efficient operations
Since the early 90s, energy efficiency has been a priority for HP’s Design for Environment (DfE) programme. Besides the long-term positive effects on the environment, leadership in energy efficiency is becoming a significant differentiator and competitive advantage for HP: be it by reducing operational cost through energy savings or by developing solutions that fulfil mounting customer needs for energy efficient products.
