HP and network of NGOs discuss improvements for China supply chain standards
As part of our ongoing efforts to extend our social and environmental standards through our supply chain, HP started discussions with the GoodElectronics Coalition, an international network of NGOs, to help improve social and environmental standards in second and third tier suppliers around the world.
HP Technology for Teaching grant winners meet to share best practices Every year, HP invites recipients of the HP Technology for Teaching Award to participate at the HP Worldwide Higher Education Conference to share best practices, learn from each other and form new relationships. On 7-8 February 2007, more than 120 teaching and research staff from universities and colleges in 22 countries came together in California to be inspired and to learn from their peers about how innovative technology can improve the learning experiences of students.
Business ethics tops the agenda at HP Jon Hoak joined HP in October last year as chief ethics and compliance officer. Following the investigation by the California Attorney General’s Office into the HP Board of Directors leak investigation last year, his role has expanded responsibilities and he reports directly to HP’s CEO Mark Hurd.
We spoke to Jon when he was in Switzerland in February to meet with the HP leadership teams from around EMEA to discuss his work with the ethics and compliance function in the region.
HP backs global UN e-waste initiative HP is one of the main private sector sponsors of a new global electronic waste initiative by the United Nations (UN) which was announced on March 6th. The public-private initiative “Solving the E-Waste Problem” (StEP), aims to increase recycling, improve and harmonise recycling standards and legislation and reduce the volume of electronic and electrical waste that ends up in landfill sites or is incinerated in countries around the world.
HP helps to open sixth NEPAD e-school in Egypt With strong support from HP and a number of other global ICT companies, Al Hadeen secondary school in El-Behira, Egypt has become the sixth NEPAD e-school. The school has joined the pilot phase of an ambitious project by The New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD), a pan-African development organisation.
The NEPAD e-school initiative aims to connect 600,000 primary and secondary schools on the African continent to the Internet by 2015. HP is a member of the consortium of private sector partners that is supporting NEPAD in achieving this ambitious goal by bringing schools online.
