Welcome to the October edition of HP EMEA Global Citizenship Bulletin

In this edition we have news of the winners of our annual Global Business Challenge, held in partnership with the biggest student network organisation on entrepreneurship education in Europe Junior Achievement Young Enterprise. Without giving away the name of the winning country too soon, it is encouraging to see that the winners are from an increasing number of countries making a strong entrepreneurial presence in EMEA.

HP disposes, recycles and refurbishes IT equipment for customers
Disposing of old IT equipment has long caused companies hassle and headache. As companies replace their data centres and consolidate their IT infrastructure, the volume of obsolete IT equipment increases. Responding to this trend, HP offers its customers in Europe a convenient way to go green by taking advantage of HP’s take-back and recycling service. HP has also offered the option to buy or lease refurbished IT equipment at competitive prices for a number of years, with increasing success.

Interview

HP-WWF partnership kicks off next stage in EMEA 
Following the global announcement of HP’s partnership with WWF last year, here in EMEA, HP and WWF are now working towards identifying how ICT solutions can deliver carbon dioxide reductions.

Dennis Pamlin, Global Policy Advisor, WWF has spent the last few weeks visiting a number of HP sites across EMEA to discuss climate-smart ideas with HP employees.

We caught up with him to ask what progress has been made in EMEA so far, why WWF chose HP to partner with and what the benefits of such a partnership are for WWF and HP.

HP launches project to support sustainable e-waste recycling in Africa 
On September 18, HP launched an exciting one-year pilot project to find sustainable recycling processes for electronic waste (e-waste) in developing countries. HP aims to develop workable and safe solutions for electronic recycling in close cooperation with local communities and the informal waste recycling sector in Africa. The project will test processes and practices, focusing on solutions that will improve the recycling infrastructure and increase recycling rates for e-waste. HP has partnered with the Global Digital Solidarity Fund (DSF) and the Swiss Institute for Material Science and Technology (Empa) to achieve these objectives.

Azerbaijan students win 12th HP Global Business Challenge
Two students from Azerbaijan have been awarded the first prize in the 12 HP Global Business Challenge which was held in Europe for the first time this summer. The Challenge is an annual business simulation competition, organised in conjunction with Junior Achievement, one of the world’s largest provider of enterprise education programmes. Six finalist teams participated in the event which was held in Prague in August.
