Welcome to the November issue of the HP EMEA Global Citizenship Bulletin. This month’s issue of the Global Citizenship Bulletin has a strong focus on our social investment and diversity strategies. Our interview this month is with Benni North, Transformation Manager at HP South Africa. In South Africa, HP recently announced a €15.8 million investment to provide IT training and business skills, creating the HP Business Institute (HPBI). The interview sheds light on the preparations that led up to the creation of the HPBI and how this fits in with our other efforts to support the South African Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment Initiative (B-BBEE). The B-BBEE is an initiative by the South African government to address the effects of South Africa’s past where access to higher education and to the most skilled jobs was restricted to a minority population classified as “White”.

We also bring you a report of the Women International Networking (W.I.N.) Conference, which HP supported again this year as Gold sponsor. HP was also represented by approximately 80 HP women employees who attended the event to spread the word about career development opportunities at HP and also benefited from the professional networking opportunities at the conference. Read our article for some interesting insights we gained from feedback of W.I.N.  participants about what professional women look for when planning their next career move.

Finally, we have a report from our Technology for Teaching conference which was specifically held for grant recipients for the first time in our region. We actively facilitate networking and relationship building among our current and previous grant recipients and all grantees are encouraged to also participate in the online wiki platform which facilitates ongoing exchange and further development of ideas.
