Harnessing the power of innovation for society

‘HP Invent’ is more than a strapline to us. At HP we believe in the power of innovation, to create and build technology that works for people. We see our commitment and capabilities in innovation as the key to success in our global citizenship activities, for customers and for our communities.

In this issue of the Global Citizenship Bulletin, we explore some of the ways technology innovation is influencing the future of the EMEA region (Europe, Middle East and Africa). In particular, the work HP has done to support IT in education and recycling initiatives which have helped global efforts for a cleaner planet.

Interview

Supporting education and entrepreneurship in the Middle East
In November 2005, HP’s efforts to support education and economic development in the Middle East saw the launch of a number of centres and programmes in Israel and Palestine. Each had a unique focus and has drawn on HP’s experience in working with local communities in the regions that it serves. In every case our work has supported efforts of local organisations and institutions.

Here we talk to Didier Philippe, Director HP Education Programmes in EMEA, about the company’s work in the region.

HP recycles record amount of products
Across Europe, people are embracing recycling of electronic equipment in record numbers. Worldwide HP increased the amount we recycled in 2005 by 17 per cent to 63.5 million kilos, the equivalent weight of 280 jumbo airliners.
