Welcome to the January/February edition of our Global Citizenship Bulletin in EMEA
Welcome to the first edition of Global Citizenship Bulletin for 2009 and may we wish you all a very Happy New Year!
We are proud to announce our support for the launch of a new online guide to Responsible Supply Chain Management. The guide has been developed specifically for companies wanting to drive environmental and social improvements in their supply chain and provides comprehensive details on how suppliers and buyers can contribute to responsible business practices in the supply chain.
Our interview this month is with Dr. Sergey Gorinskiy, Deputy Director of the World ORT Representative Office in Moscow, who gives some insight into how HP and ORT have been working together to develop our Graduate Entrepreneurship Training through IT (GET-IT) programme in Russia. Our GET-IT programme is something that we will be reporting on frequently this year so keep an eye for more details.
HP partners with UNESCO to publish comprehensive recycling guide
HP and UNESCO, together with a selection of high profile partners, have launched the first of two modules which make up a comprehensive recycling guide for entrepreneurs who want to make the most out of computer recycling. The first module, which is free online, was launched at a conference on Digital Solidarity held in Lyon in France in November.
Discovering the success of GET-IT technology, through first hand experience
HP EMEA’s Graduate Entrepreneurship Training through IT (GET-IT) programme has been expanded in recent months, with the launch of its new online GET-IT City portal and the announcement of plans for additional centres to be opened in the next two years.
Currently, there are 70 training centres placed across Europe, the Middle East and Africa and six of those are in Russia. We spoke to Dr. Sergey Gorinskiy, Deputy Director of the World ORT Representative Office in Moscow to find out how effective the training is.
New online guide launched for responsible supply chain management
HP, together with other large, leading international organisations, has launched a new online guide for companies wanting to drive environmental and social improvements in their supply chain.
The guide consolidates expertise gathered from thousands of supplier audits taken by companies from varying industries and provides details on best practices, international standards and principles, as well as information on different subjects relating to corporate social responsibility (CSR).
HP Romania shows how GET-IT technology fosters economic development
The eastern European country of Romania is growing fast. The internet is widely used in the capital Bucharest and people are gaining access to the web in more remote regions. But the fact that a significant proportion of the country’s younger generation choose to leave Romania to find work elsewhere means that much needs to be done to enhance talent and foster economic development.
Entrepreneurship, with everything that it has to offer, often proves to be a very effective way of fostering economic development. For the past two years, HP has provided significant support for Romania’s remote regions by introducing Graduate Entrepreneurship Training Through IT (GET-IT) centres. These centres, implemented in conjunction with HP’s longstanding partner Junior Achievement Young Enterprise (JA-YE) have so far trained more than 3,000 young people in Romania, providing them with essential IT skills which can help them to set up their own business.
