HP, together with other large, leading international organisations, has launched a new online guide for companies wanting to drive environmental and social improvements in their supply chain.
The guide consolidates expertise gathered from thousands of supplier audits taken by companies from varying industries and provides details on best practices, international standards and principles, as well as information on different subjects relating to corporate social responsibility (CSR).
Increased pressure Rising consumer demands for ethically produced goods have put increased pressure on suppliers to meet strict social and environmental standards. Karl Daumüller, programme manager, HP global procurement services says:
“HP has the largest supply chain in the technology sector. If we are to effectively address our social and environmental impact, we need to engage our suppliers. From our experience, small companies are looking to larger companies for a consolidated set of requirements and guidance and that is exactly what this online guide provides.”
Leading role
In addition to HP, the major companies joining forces to launch the guide were L’Oreal, Titan and Volkswagen, all of which play a leading role in the European CSR Laboratory on Responsible Supply Chain Management, which is facilitated by CSR Europe and Business Social Compliance Initiative (BSCI).
The online guide was launched in Brussels last month as part of CSR Europe’s Toolbox - a collection of business tools, network models and information resources designed to help companies and their stakeholders address social and environmental challenges and integrate CSR into mainstream business practice. The toolbox is based on 18 months of cross-sector co-operation between 20 CSR Laboratory projects, all working together as the European Alliance for CSR .
