It’s spring time! Well that might be wishful thinking. But it is certainly a good excuse to look at things in a positive light. With that in mind, we are delighted to provide you with some very interesting articles this month.
We begin with the announcement that our longstanding partner, the Micro-Enterprise Acceleration Institute (MEA-I) has won the top prize at the ‘i-Learning Forum Awards’ in Paris.
This very prestigious accolade is in recognition of MEA-I’s MAP initiative, which is designed to accelerate economic development in communities around the world. HP has been a major sponsor of MEA-I since 2006 and the partnership between the two organisations has led to the creation of some comprehensive, effective solutions, including our well known Graduate Entrepreneurship Training though IT (GET-IT) programme.
From the African continent, we have news of a pilot project to tackle issues of e-waste management. The pilot has not only succeeded in generating income and employment for local communities, but has also demonstrated how imagination and innovation can turn redundant technology into works of art.
Our Country Spotlight this month comes from Russia, with a success story on the expansion of HP’s Russian Institute of Technology (RIT) programme. The programme helps Russia’s leading universities develop unique IT education courses. It now supports no fewer than 12 universities, collectively providing a total of 22 IT courses to more than 1,500 students.
Finally, our interview focuses on our expanding Brain Drain initiative. Arnaud Pierson, Regional Lead, EMEA, Strategic Universities Collaboration, explains how, after positive results from a project to pilot solutions for reversing Brain Drain across five countries in Africa, the project is now being extended to many more countries in both Africa and the Middle East.
