Climate Change: individual contributions on a global scale

Climate change, global warming, greenhouse gases, rising temperatures. All phrases we hear daily as they are discussed by governments, organisations, groups and individuals all over the world.

It would be nice to think that these strong messages of the consequences of climate change would go some way to persuading people to take action. As the Financial Times pointed out in an article on 1st June, it’s not only up to companies to make environmental changes. As individuals, we have our part to play as well.

Recycling: what are the real costs
Many consumers might be concerned about the costs of recycling electronic waste following the implementation of the European Union’s WEEE (Waste, Electrical and Electronic Equipment) Directive this year. However, HP has conducted some research which shows that, not only are recycling costs lower than initially expected, but they are lower still in countries where recycling is a competitive industry.

HP opens first Digital Community Centre in Scotland
HP opened its first Digital Community Centre on the UK mainland on 15 May. The new Community Centre is based in Govan in Scotland, one of Glasgow’s most deprived areas, and it digitally connects 12 local community centres to provide training and promote both job growth and entrepreneurship.

HP sponsors global warming film premier
HP was proud to be the Presenting Sponsor at the Los Angeles premier of ‘An Inconvenient Truth’ last month. The documentary chronicles the stark effects of greenhouse gases on the earth’s climate and features former US Vice President Al Gore presenting the evidence and threats of global warming.
