Localised versions of HP’s Global Citizenship Report
As last year, we have published country versions of our annual Global Citizenship report for the UK, France, Germany, Italy and Spain. In addition, most local versions include further information about HP’s Global Citizenship activities in these countries.
For the interested reader the reports offer further details of specific programmes and initiatives at country level as well as insight into how global objectives are implemented locally. Information includes local activities raising awareness for the recycling of electronic devices in Germany, HP’s ongoing support of Digital Community Centres in the UK and background on the activities of the European Recycling Platform (ERP) and HP’s Hardware Recycling Europe (HRE) facility in France.
HP puts energy efficiency in the spotlight HP staged a high profile roundtable event on Energy Efficiency in July, once again demonstrating that topics relating to all elements of climate change need more attention and action than ever.
The event provided an opportunity for international media to hear HP’s wider business case for energy efficiency and how we are working with our customers to encourage them to integrate environmental factors into their buying decisions.
HP South Africa’s CEO wants to inspire women across Africa Last month HP South Africa celebrated annual ‘Women’s Day’. Hundreds of HP women – from cleaners to secretaries to managers – came together for a breakfast meeting, to inspire each other, network and recognise each others’ achievements.
It’s all part of a mission to empower women in business, led by South Africa’s CEO Thoko Mokgosi-Mwantembe. We spoke to Thoko about business leadership, celebrating women in business and the importance of remaining true to yourself.
Creative ideas enhance mobile learning Earlier this year, HP Germany partnered with the Ministry of Education, the Federal Media Centre and the Regional Media Centre to launch a competition to promote mobile learning in schools.
In its first year, the competition targeted secondary schools in the German region of Zollernalb and a total of 34 schools submitted their projects and ideas on mobile learning. On 28 July, the final nominees gathered at HP in Boeblingen to find out who had won.
HP awards Estonian student company for responsible business strategy HP EMEA’s 2006 Responsible Business Award has gone to a group of Estonian students whose company makes wallets from used drink cartons. The Estonian business was selected during the European JA-YE (Junior Achievement Young Enterprise) Company of the Year event on August 5 in Interlaken, Switzerland.
The new HP award is given once a year to the JA-YE student company with the most comprehensive approach to social and environmental responsibility. By sponsoring the award HP wants to encourage the entrepreneurs of tomorrow to come up with viable business ideas that are sustainable and responsible.
