The Hungarian Digital Community Centre (DCC) was established in December 2002 and has since become a national centre of excellence for environmental education. At the University of Miskolc, a technology information centre was created to serve as a cultural tool for on line training on environmental issues and at the Petroleum and Gas Institute, a multimedia centre was equipped to train and sensitise first the teacher and then the students, on the usage of the online training platform in the environmental field. In March 2005, the Miskolc DCC launched the ‘Envirotrainer’ programme, a distant learning course which prepares secondary school teachers for transferring state-of-the-art environmental knowledge to their students.
Considering also the lacking of technological infrastructures in schools (multimedia libraries), the purpose of the DCC is also to create a point of reference where schools can take advantage of all available technology.
The DCC centre has a direct access to the Fondazione Mattei Environmental database developed in Milan.
HP provided equipment consisting of 30 PCs, two servers, six peripherals and continues to provide project management expertise - a package worth a total of $120,000 over three years. |

The University of Miskolc hosts the centre with the support of the local Municipality.
HP works closely with Miskolc University, Tigaz, a regional gas distribution company and the Eni Enrico Mattei Foundation, an organisation that carries out research in the field of sustainable development. Each organisation contributes to the project: the University provides environmental training content and premises for the DCC with the support of the local council; Tigaz provides logistical support and covers some management expenses; the Eni Enrico Mattei Foundation is responsible for some online training content. |
