In 2008, HP conducted 129 supplier site audits, bringing our total since 2005 to 480 (pilot audits we conducted in 2004 are excluded) from this total. Ninety-nine of our 2008 audits were follow-up audits to measure progress in reducing nonconformances found during initial reviews. These audits focused on our key strategic suppliers with the highest procurement spending, the most nonconformances and the largest workforce. To date, we have assessed and audited (for high-risk sites) suppliers representing over 95 percent of our product materials and manufacturing spend.

  • Seventy percent of previously identified major nonconformances were resolved in the most recent audit
  • The average number of major nonconformances per facility decreased 35 percent from the first to the most recent audit (less than 70 percent noted above due to new items)

Our full 2008 results are available in the 2008 Global Citizenship Report. The report also highlights a number of examples of our engagement with suppliers.

Multimedia highlights of our specific initiatives include:

  • HP's Global Citizenship in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa - Video.
  • Implementing our program in Mexico – Video.
  • Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business released a report reviewing the China operations of three HP suppliers—Flextronics, AU Optronics (AUO) and Delta. Their report focused on the benefits and challenges of implementing HP’s SER program for suppliers.
  • Released Small Suppliers in Global Supply Chains report with the Danish Commerce and Companies Agency as part of the Central Europe Supplier Responsibility Project – podcast describing the results and final report and press release.
