Knowledge and tools are the basis for economic development in every region of the world. HP provides resources and technology solutions to help increase job skills and foster entrepreneurial development.
HP supports non-profit organizations, educational institutions, and communities to help increase job skills and foster entrepreneurial development through innovative use of technology. In Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA), HP works with local partners who offer training for under- or unemployed youth and very small businesses in underserved communities.

Microenterprise Acceleration Program (MAP)

Micro-enterprises, the smallest of small businesses, are the fastest-growing businesses and the biggest source of new jobs globally. While an increasing number of low-income entrepreneurs are moving toward self-sufficiency, few are using technology effectively to accelerate their businesses.
HP’s Microenterprise Acceleration Program (MAP) provides micro-enterprises access to technology and training helping them to accelerate and sustain business growth and economic opportunity.
In 2006, the non-profit organization Micro-Enterprise Acceleration Institute (MEA-I) took over the management of the MAP program in the EMEA region. HP is still involved in the program and, as a platinum sponsor of the Institute, supports its efforts to develop new MAP training centers in EMEA.

Graduate Entrepreneurship Training through IT (GET-IT)

Last year HP announced a new collaborative program with 35 social NGOs in 19 countries in EMEA to run the “Graduate Entrepreneurship Training through IT” (GET-IT). In 2008 HP plans to grow the GET-IT network to 70 centers in more than 23 countries.

The programme provides IT equipment for these organisations as well as professional guidance courses for their trainers. It will enable them to offer interactive courses specifically designed to improve business IT skills of young unemployed school leavers and graduates.
