In 2005, HP launched the HP Microenterprise Acceleration Program (MAP) as part of its philanthropy program. Working in partnership with local non-profit organizations, the MAP program provides microenterprises – businesses with up to ten employees – access to technology and training helping them to accelerate and sustain business growth and economic opportunity. 50 training centers have been opened in the US, Europe, the Middle East and Africa since the program began.
In 2006, the non-profit organization Micro-Enterprise Acceleration Institute (MEA-I) took over the management of the MAP program in the EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) region. HP is still involved in the program and, as a platinum sponsor of the Institute, supports its efforts to develop new MAP training centers in EMEA.
MEA-I provides services for city councils, local authorities and business associations. It helps advance teaching and learning programs through the use of personalized technology and curricula for entrepreneurs through local business development agencies.
MAP support for microenterprises taking part in the program includes a fully operational training center including the most innovative ICT equipment, a curriculum, professional training for trainers of the MAP network, access to an on-line platform where best practices are shared as well as an opportunity for MAP trainees to participate in the MAP Award Program.
