Simplified, efficient management with Storage Virtualisation

Storage virtualisation addresses the issue of management and the cost of managing your storage capacities in an efficient manner. With virtualisation, capacity is pooled, eliminating the physical boundaries between storage devices and their physical relationship to the server. In addition, virtualisation allows multiple “virtual” disks to be created, for transparent presentation to the host. As well as simplifying storage management, this enables you to save money by not over-investing in or over-provisioning disk capacity.

Three advantages of virtualization:

Making optimum use of existing array capacity
Seamless growth of array capacity
Maintaining system performance

Tiered storage environments

Tiered storage environments
By matching your data to an appropriate level of disk storage, you can lower your cost of ownership without impacting the business. For example, in a typical disk-todisk- to-tape environment:
The most critical data is stored in tier one on SCSI/FC disks.
The second tier stores near-online data (e.g., disk-to-disk backup copies) on SATA/FATA disks.
Tier three comprises tape-based backup copies, or even archived data on optical storage.
